Day 38 – “What Makes a Friend?”

Standard

“What Makes a Friend?” by Jaymie Gerard

What makes a friend?

Is it someone who’s bold?

Who’s sparkly as diamonds

And shiny as gold?

What makes a friend?

Is it someone who’s brave?

Who could fight off a dragon

Deep in a cave?

What makes a friend?

Is it someone who’s smart?

Who’s a whiz in mathematics

And science and art?

What makes a friend?

Is it someone you’d trust?

Who would bury your secrets

Under the dust?

What makes a friend?

Is it someone who’s strong?

Who could carry a tree for you

Fifteen feet long?

What makes a friend?

Is it someone who’s fast?

Who’d stay behind with you

So you won’t be last?

What makes a friend?

Is it someone bighearted?

Who’d give you the last bite

Of cake he had started?

What makes a friend?

Is it someone who cares?

Who, if you were crying,

You know would be there?

What makes a friend?

Is it someone who’s funny?

Who does silly things

Like dancing in honey?

What makes a friend?

Is it someone who’s cool?

Who likes to dress funky

And makes her own rules?

What makes a friend?

Is it someone who’s good?

Who does the right thing

Just like he should?

What makes a friend?

Is it someone who’s happy?

Who’s skippy and bouncy

And flippy and flappy?

What makes a friend

Who’s forever and true?

It’s someone quite special –

Someone just like you!

Day 9 – “If We All Were Robots”

Standard

“If We All Were Robots” by Jaymie Gerard

If we all were robots

Instead of girls and boys

Maybe we’d have humans

To play with as our toys

We’d keep them in our closets

And take them out for games

We’d dress them up in little clothes

And give them funny names

We’d take them to the marketplace

We’d take them to the pool

We’d listen to them singing songs

And send them off to school

We’d see them getting taller

We’d help them as they grow

We’d wish that they’d get smaller

But they don’t do that, you know

They’d grow up to be astronauts

And presidents and kings

We’d pretend that we were humans

So we could do human-like things

So we might as well be humans

If we ever get the choice

‘Cause who’d want to be robots

When we could be girls or boys?
